Truckers Beware

The national news media has reported that beginning today, thousands of anti-government truck drivers will converge on the Capital Beltway in Washington, D.C. over the holiday weekend. Designated staging areas include Interstate 95 in Virginia and Interstate 81 in Pennsylvania. The report notes that drivers intend to occupy three lanes of I-95 at 55mph while keeping the fourth lane clear for emergency vehicles.

Truckers should be aware, however, that in Pennsylvania it is illegal for a vehicle or combination exceeding 10,000 lbs. to occupy the left hand lane of any limited access highway having three or more lanes for traffic moving in the same direction. Staying within the speed limit is not a defense to this charge. Additionally, our courts have ruled that there is no posting requirement associated with this offense. Truckers beware.
