Achieving Hollywood stardom does not protect you from a difficult divorce. Just ask Game of Thrones actress Lena Headey. Known to millions as Queen Regent Cersei Lannister, Headley found herself heartbroken and depressed, just like so many of her non-famous fans.

Read on to learn more about her experience and what has gone through.

Her Divorce

In 2011, Headey separated from her husband of four years, Irish musician Peter Loughran. She filed for divorce in 2012, citing that she and Loughran had “irreconcilable differences.”

It wasn’t until December 2013 that the divorce was finalized. She said that the divorce was tough, and that there was a lot of sadness and disappointment. The actress says their 5 year old son, Wylie, helped her to cope with the separation.

Her Financial Problems

Throughout the 2013 divorce proceedings, Loughran made an emergency court filing asking for half of their 2011 tax refund. In response, Headey filed papers claiming that she needed $6,000 of those joint funds to help with her living expenses. At the time she was living on credit, and had just $5 left in her bank account.

Her financial slump had been caused by her pregnancy, since she was unable to work while pregnant due to insurance issues.

Her Personal Life

Loughran was Headey’s first husband, though she was once engaged to Johnny Ciccio. She also had a nine year relationship with actor Jason Flemyng, which ended in 2003. She met Flemyng in 1994 during the filming of The Jungle Book.

Lena, who admits to suffering from depression in the past, is slowly recovering from the pain of divorce. As she explains, in a recent GuelphMercury.com mention, “You can’t run from divorce. You have to find a way to get through the discomfort. I find calm and a real peace to it.”

When you think about it, this is good advice for anyone in the same situation. Yes, divorce is typically very stressful. But, one of the most important things to remember is that you’ll eventually get through it, and when all is said and done, you have the rest of your life to look forward to.

In addition to her acting career, Lena is known for campaigning on behalf of animal rights. She also enjoys tattoos, and claims to be addicted to them.
